The repertoire includes original songs by Cristy De la Rosa, such as “Son Barroco” and “Rosa Mexicano”; traditional songs from Veracruz like “El Siquisirí” and “La Bamba”; and songs from the rest of the country, such as “Las Perlitas”.
The jarocha harp is a traditional musical instrument from Veracruz, Mexico. It is a regional version of the harp that is integral to the son jarocho, a musical genre that combines Indigenous, African, and Spanish influences. This harp is distinguished from other harps by its specific size and tuning, designed to accompany the rhythms and melodies of son jarocho.
Its importance in son jarocho and Mexican culture is similar to the role of the flamenco guitar in Spain or the bandoneon in Argentine tango. In addition, it is one of the instruments that best represent the cultural identity of Veracruz and has become a symbol of the region's folklore.
“Since the son jarocho and the jarocho harp are not so well known outside of Mexico, my work as a traditional harpist has been to promote and preserve the jarocho harp and music.” - Cristy De la Rosa
